Letter V coloring page

A big outlined capital V, two straight diagonals meeting at a point, with four dotted V's to trace below on a dotted line. It suits children from about three to six. Trace down to the point and back up, and say the sound. Van, violin and volcano start with V. Color the V like a volcano, red and orange at the bottom, with smoke drawn above the point. Fits A4 and US Letter.

How to use the letter V page

The capital V and the small v are the same shape in two sizes: two straight lines meeting at a point at the bottom. Color both, then make a V with two fingers and hold it over the page to see if it matches.

Start at the top left, slant down to the point, then slant back up to the right without lifting the crayon. The sound is a buzzy one, made with the top teeth on the bottom lip: vet, vest, vase. For a hunt, open the fridge and look for vegetables. Can your child name one that starts with V? Then draw a vase of flowers in the top space, so the letter has a friend.

Questions

Which letters look alike in capital and small form?

C, O, S, V, W, X and Z keep the same shape, just smaller. Those letters are often the easiest pairs for children, because they only need to learn one movement.

Is V hard to say?

The v sound can come a bit later for some children, who may say b or f instead. Play with it as a buzzing sound. If you have questions about your child's speech, ask their teacher or doctor.

Can I print the page in black and white?

Yes. The page is black outlines on white, so any home or school printer works and no color ink is needed. It prints on A4 or US Letter, and your child adds all the color.
