How to use the number 8 page
Eight is the number of legs on a spider and arms on an octopus. After coloring the big 8, count to eight using both hands: four fingers on one, four on the other. Then wiggle all eight like spider legs and walk them across the table.
To write the 8, start at the top right, curve to the left, cross down through the middle to the bottom right, round the bottom and come back up to where you started. If that is too hard, draw two circles stacked like a snowman: many children start this way. Then build a tower of eight blocks, counting each one as it goes on, and see if it stands.
Questions
Is it okay to draw the 8 as two circles?
Yes, many children start that way. It looks right and builds confidence. Later, they can try the single stroke, crossing in the middle, which is quicker for writing.
How do I help my child count past five?
Count small objects in a row, touching each one. Use both hands for numbers above five. Songs and rhymes with counting also help children remember the order.
Can I print the number 8 page several times?
Yes, print as many copies as you like for personal or classroom use. Each print gives your child a fresh row of dotted eights to trace.
