How to use the number 2 page

Two is the number of pairs, and pairs are everywhere at home. After coloring the big 2, take a pile of clean socks and match them up into pairs with your child. Count each pair: one, two. Then try mittens, shoes or earmuffs. Every pair has two.

To write the 2, start at the top left, curve up and over to the right, slant down to the bottom left, then draw a flat line across. Many children find it easier to say it out loud: round, down, across. Then hunt for two of something: two wheels on a bike, two chopsticks, two slices of bread in a sandwich. Draw one of these pairs next to the big 2.

Questions

My child writes the 2 backward. What can I do?

Reversing numbers is very common in young children and usually fades with practice, often by around seven. Trace the dotted 2s together, saying the steps out loud: round, down, across.

Why start at the top for numbers?

Most handwriting styles start numbers and letters at the top. It makes the strokes flow downward and keeps the shapes consistent when children write rows of them.

What do I need to print the page?
