Three towers with pointed roofs and waving flags stand tall in this simple fairy-tale castle. Arched windows, a few square stones, crenellated walls and a big double door with ring handles make it easy to recognize, and a wooden drawbridge hangs from two chains at the front. Thick, clean outlines leave plenty of room for children aged 2 to 5. Color the roofs bright pink or blue, keep the walls a soft gray, and let little ones pick a different color for each flag.

Surrounded by a rippling moat, this storybook castle has five towers topped with cone roofs and pennant flags. A raised portcullis sits above an open gateway, and a wooden drawbridge on chains leads to a stepping-stone path. Trees, bushes, tufts of grass, two clouds and a smiling sun complete the sunny scene. Great for kids aged 5 to 10 who are ready for a bit more detail. Use colored pencils for the stone walls, pressing lightly, and save your boldest blue for the moat.

Turrets upon turrets rise from this grand castle, each with a tiled cone roof, narrow arched windows and a fluttering pennant. Fleur-de-lis banners hang beside a portcullis gate, and a crest sits above it. A stone bridge with ball-topped pillars crosses the moat to a cobblestone path lined with flowering bushes, while mountains, pine trees and clouds fill the background. The fine brickwork suits older kids and adults. Try a cool palette of slate blue roofs and creamy stone walls, with gold for the banners and crest.

Brick by brick, this palace overflows with detail: dozens of scalloped spires, gothic windows, fleur-de-lis banners and a heavy drawbridge guarded by two stone lions holding shields. An arched stone bridge spans a lily-dotted moat where two swans glide. A peacock fans its tail on a wall, a bird sits in a blossoming tree, and mountains, a waterfall and a hillside village fill the horizon, with roses crowding the foreground. Ideal for experienced adult colorists. Use fine liners or sharp pencils and pick one accent color, like deep rose, to tie the page together.
