How to use the fish dot-to-dot

Point to the bubbles first and ask what might live there. Then count the ten dots aloud together, touching each one, and see whether your child can guess the animal before drawing. Guessing adds a bit of fun and gives a reason to look carefully at the shape of the dots.

The tail has two sharp turns, so slow down there and say the next number before moving the crayon. If your child can find numbers on their own, let them search for each next dot while you wait. When 10 joins back to 1, the fish is complete. Now it needs an eye, a smile, stripes or spots, and perhaps some seaweed below. Children who enjoy it can draw a second fish swimming beside it.

Questions

What age is the fish dot-to-dot for?

It suits children around four to five. The tail's two sharp turns make it a step up from the star, so it is a good page for children who already know numbers 1 to 10.

What should we color after joining the dots?

Add an eye, stripes or spots in bright colors, then color the bubbles blue. Your child can also draw seaweed, shells or more fish to turn it into an ocean scene.

Can I download it to use on a tablet?

Yes. You can download the fish as an SVG or PNG file and use it in a drawing app, although joining dots with a crayon on paper is often easier for young hands.
