Three stacked rows of round arches curve around this Colosseum in Rome, Italy, with the taller broken wall rising on the left just like the real ruin. A plain top band with small square windows crowns the outer ring. With no background at all, the big shapes are easy to fill for children aged about 2 to 5. The amphitheater opened almost 2,000 years ago, in AD 80. Warm sandy yellows and light browns from a box of crayons will give the old stone a sunny look.

Clouds float over the Colosseum in Rome, Italy, drawn with three levels of arches, columns between them and a tall top wall dotted with small windows. On the right, the broken lower section shows where part of the outer ring is missing. A cobblestone square fills the foreground, framed by bushy shrubs, grass tufts, a tall cypress and an umbrella pine. Children aged 5 to 10 will find clear spaces to color. Try a different shade of beige or tan for each row of arches and a bright blue sky.

Through the openings you can see the inner walls and corridors. A leafy branch hangs into the top right corner, cypress trees and shrubs line low stone walls, and soft clouds drift behind the ruined upper tier. The arena once held an estimated 50,000 spectators.
