How to use the museum frame

This frame is made for showing off art. Put a child's best drawing inside, and it suddenly looks like a gallery piece. A small exhibition at home works well: frame a few drawings, hang them in the hallway, and let your child give a short tour with the title of each work.

To make the carving look real, think about light. Pick a direction, say the top left, and color the parts of each border facing it in pale gold or yellow ochre, then use brown and a little dark gray on the sides facing away. The egg-and-dart ovals look best with a dot of shadow under each one. In art lessons, the frame pairs well with a study of a famous painting copied in the center.

Questions

How do I make the frame look like real gold?

Use yellow ochre as the base, a pale yellow on edges facing the light, and brown in the grooves. A gold metallic pen on the acanthus leaves adds shine without covering everything.

Can children color the museum frame?

It has fine details meant for adults and patient older kids. Younger children can color the wide borders with one color each and leave the small ovals plain.

What size drawing fits inside?

The center is blank, so measure the space inside the innermost border on your printout and trim the drawing to fit. A smaller drawing on a colored background card also looks good.
