How to use the spiral page
The spiral looks different as it turns, which gives you something to do with it. Hold the page about 20 to 30 cm from your baby and rotate it very slowly, a little at a time, while you hum or talk. Newborns see bold high-contrast shapes best at that distance and tend to look longer at them.
Choose a moment when your baby is fed, awake and content, and keep the session short. Watch their face: if they stay still and look, carry on a little; if they turn away, blink a lot or fuss, stop and try another day. Print it on card stock, or tape the sheet to a piece of cardboard, so it is easy to hold. Big brothers and sisters can color their own copy.
Questions
Should I spin the spiral page?
Turn it slowly, a small amount at a time, rather than spinning it fast. Slow movement gives your baby time to look. Stop when they look away or seem unsettled.
Can I put the spiral page in the crib?
No. Paper and cardboard should not be left in the crib. Use the page during supervised awake time, held by you or propped up out of reach.
What age is the spiral page for?
It is made for newborns and young babies. Newborns see bold high-contrast shapes best at about 20 to 30 cm and look longer at them, so it suits the first months.
