Ideas for coloring the Cathedral mandala

Cathedral looks its best when you treat it like stained glass. Color the wedges in jewel tones, ruby, sapphire, emerald and amber, and leave the fine spoke lines themselves uncolored so they act like the lead between the glass panes. A 0.3 or 0.5 mm fine liner keeps the edges crisp in the narrow outer rings. If you use pencils, sharpen often.

Another approach is the stone version: grays, warm creams and one deep blue for the two petal rings, so the window seems lit from behind. Work from the center out and rest your hand on a scrap of paper to avoid smudging. With nine rings and many small spaces, most people spread the page over two or three sittings of about forty minutes, which makes it a calm project to return to.

Questions

How long does the Cathedral mandala take?

Most adults need two to three hours in total, depending on tools and how much shading they add. Splitting it into a few shorter sessions keeps it relaxing rather than tiring.

Will markers bleed through the paper?

Alcohol markers often bleed through ordinary printer paper. Put a spare sheet underneath, or print on heavier paper. Fine liners and colored pencils are usually safe on standard paper.

Can a child color Cathedral?

It is a detailed page meant for teens and adults. A patient child of about ten may enjoy coloring just the two petal rings and the corners, leaving the fine spoke rings white.
