Perched on a gum branch with its big beak wide open, a cheerful kookaburra looks like it is about to laugh out loud. A spray of long eucalyptus leaves and round gumnuts hangs below, and the rest of the page is left white. The thick outlines and roomy shapes suit little ones aged 2 to 5. Color the head and chest creamy white, the wings brown and the tail striped with rusty orange.

Beak open in a happy call, a kookaburra sits on a curving branch under a eucalyptus tree with fluffy gum blossoms and gumnuts. Behind it, round bushes, a tall gum tree and a distant hill fill the bushland, with tufts of grass and a rock below. Clear lines and medium shapes suit kids aged about 5 to 10. Try brown wings with a few pale blue spots, a cream chest and soft green leaves.

Mid laugh on a thick sloping branch, a lifelike kookaburra shows its dark eye stripe, scalloped wing feathers and long barred tail. Gum leaves, gumnuts and blossoms frame the scene, and a bushland valley stretches to a flat-topped mountain and a calm lake, with spiky grasses and rocks in front. Fine lines suit older kids, teens and adults. Layer warm browns and creams for the feathers, then add a hint of sky blue on the wing.

Patterned scales, swirls and dotted feathers fill a kookaburra calling from a swirling, wood-grained branch. Dense eucalyptus leaves, clusters of gumnuts and fluffy gum blossoms wrap around it, while a gorge with cliffs, a river and rolling bush opens behind. Made for teens and adults who like detailed, relaxing work with fine pens. Try chocolate browns and creams for the bird, turquoise flecks on the wings and many greens for the leaves.
