Kangaroo (easy)

Standing tall on strong back legs, a happy mother kangaroo carries a grinning joey peeking out of her pouch. Behind them sits a large rounded rock on the horizon, with a couple of bushes and a tuft of grass. The bold, simple outlines make it an easy and sweet page for toddlers and preschoolers aged about 2 to 5. Use warm sandy brown or reddish orange crayons for the kangaroos, then a rich red for the big rock and pale blue for the sky. Prints on A4 or US Letter.

Out in the open bush, a mother kangaroo stands upright with her joey tucked in her pouch, both looking cheerful. A gum tree rises on the left, a big rock formation sits on the horizon, and the ground is dotted with shrubs, grass clumps and small stones. With more scenery than a beginner page but still clear lines, it suits kids aged about 5 to 10. Try an outback palette with colored pencils: red-brown earth, olive green shrubs and a bright turquoise sky.

Kangaroo (detailed)

A realistic kangaroo stands alert under the drooping leaves of a gum tree, a joey poking its head out of her pouch. Behind them, a wide landscape of scattered trees, rocks and spiky grasses leads to rugged sandstone cliffs beneath a few clouds, while round wattle-like flowers bloom on the left. Fine lines and fur texture make this a rewarding page for older kids, teens and adults. Watercolor pencils work beautifully here: wash in ochre and burnt orange for the land, then sharpen the kangaroos with dry pencil.

Intricate patterns cover a mother kangaroo and her joey, who sit among banksia cones, fluffy blossoms and spiky plants. Behind them, cliffs and a winding river meet a rising sun ringed with rows of dots, and the rocks in the foreground are filled with concentric circles and dot work. This dense, edge-to-edge page is designed for experienced adult colorists. A warm desert palette of terracotta, mustard, deep orange and dusty green, applied with fine-tip markers, brings out the dotted textures. Prints on A4 or US Letter.
