Little ones will love this round, smiling hedgehog trotting along with a big maple leaf stuck on its spiky back. Three more leaves lie on the ground around its feet, and the whole drawing uses bold, thick outlines with large spaces to fill. It suits toddlers and preschoolers from about 2 to 5 who are just learning to hold a crayon. Keep it simple and cozy: a warm brown for the spines, a pale peach for the face and tummy, and bright red or orange for the autumn leaves.

Out for an autumn stroll, a happy hedgehog with an open grin carries a leaf on its prickly back beneath a tree branch. Big maple leaves are scattered across the grass, and a rounded rock and leafy bushes fill the background. The spines are drawn as many small marks, giving children aged about 5 to 10 a fun texture to work around. Felt-tip markers are great for the leaves, while colored pencils in two shades of brown can give the spines a little depth. Prints on A4 or US Letter.

On a forest floor carpeted with fallen leaves, a realistic hedgehog pauses between two large mushrooms and a scattering of acorns. A mossy log runs across the foreground, berries hang from a bush on the right, and a wooden fence, rolling hills and trees fill the distance beside a thick bark-covered trunk. The fine linework and dense spines make this a satisfying project for older kids, teens and adults. For the spines, try colored pencils layered from dark umber at the base to pale tan at the tips.

Hidden among a tapestry of patterned leaves, a hedgehog peeks out with shining eyes, its spines drawn as rows of tiny chevrons. Acorns with textured caps, bunches of berries, a pine cone and spotted mushrooms fill every remaining gap, edge to edge, and each leaf carries its own doodled pattern. This dense zentangle-style page is made for experienced adult colorists with time and patience to spare. A limited palette of copper, olive green and berry red keeps the busy design harmonious, applied with fine-liner markers or sharp pencils.
