Frog (easy)

Happily sitting on a lily pad, a smiling frog looks up with big googly eyes and rosy cheek circles. A few spots on its legs, round toe pads and gentle water ripples are the only details, all drawn in thick lines. Ideal for children aged about 2 to 5. Bright green for the frog and a darker green for the lily pad work well, and the cheeks are perfect for a dab of pink.

Frog (medium)

Perched on a lily pad in the middle of a pond, a cheerful spotted frog smiles out at you. A water lily blooms on the left, cattails grow on the right, and a second pad floats among the ripples. The spots give lots of little shapes to fill without overwhelming, which suits kids about 5 to 10. Try markers: a lime green frog with darker green spots, a pink water lily and soft blue water. Prints on A4 or US Letter.

Resting on a broad lily pad, a speckled frog surveys its pond with bulging eyes. Water lilies open in full bloom, a bud rises from the water, and cattails, arrowhead leaves, flowering plants and smooth stones line the bank behind it. The fine lines and full scene make this a satisfying page for older kids and adults. Use colored pencils in olive, moss and lime greens for the frog, layering darker dots on top of a lighter base.

Swirls, petals and dotted circles cover every part of this pond frog, from its bulging eyes to its long toes. It sits on a patterned lily pad, surrounded by large water lilies, two dragonflies with lacy wings, cattails and overlapping pads that fill the sheet edge to edge. A demanding page for experienced adult colorists. Gel pens or fine markers in emerald, aqua and violet, with touches of pink on the lilies, keep the composition lively.
