Fish (easy)

Here comes a round, happy fish with big eyes and a wide-open smile! Its body has a few broad stripes, it has a fan-shaped tail, and three bubbles float up beside a small seaweed sprig and two pebbles. The thick lines and very large spaces are made for little hands aged about 2 to 5. Hand your child chunky crayons and let them pick one bold color for each stripe.

Swimming happily through the water, a round striped fish with a big smile blows a trail of bubbles. Wavy seaweed, branching coral, a scallop shell and smooth pebbles sit on the sandy sea floor below. The outlines are clean and the spaces roomy, great for kids aged 5 to 10. Try bright orange and white stripes on the fish, then use watercolor pencils for the water so you can brush it into a soft blue wash.

Sunbeams stream down through the water onto a large fish covered in finely drawn scales, its spiny fins spread as it glides over the reef. A school of small fish swims above, bubbles rise, and the seabed is crowded with branching coral, tube sponges, a brain coral, a starfish, scallop shells, seaweed and rocks. Fine lines reward older kids and adults. Blend teal into deep navy from top to bottom to give the ocean real depth. Prints on A4 or US Letter.

Scales, dots and ribbed fins turn this big fish into a mosaic of tiny shapes, set against a sea floor packed with coral, tube sponges, seaweed and bubbles. A dotted starfish, a spiral shell and scallops fill the bottom corners, and pattern runs right to the edges of the page. A true challenge for experienced adult colorists. Try an ocean gradient on the fish, from turquoise at the head to violet at the tail, using fine-tip markers.
