Dog coloring pages

Tail up and tongue out, a roly-poly puppy leans forward as if inviting someone to play. The outlines are thick and smooth, with big round eyes, floppy ears, chunky paws and no background at all, so little hands can focus on one friendly shape. It suits toddlers and preschoolers from about 2 to 5 who are just learning to stay inside the lines. Try chunky washable crayons in warm caramel brown for the body and a bright pink for the tongue. Prints on A4 or US Letter.

A fluffy puppy with a round tag on its collar bounds across the lawn toward a striped ball. Behind it runs a white picket fence with leafy bushes, while simple daisies and tufts of grass dot the yard. The shapes are larger than on a detailed page but leave room for a few extra elements, which makes it a good fit for kids around 5 to 10. Colored pencils work nicely here: give the puppy a golden coat, then color the ball in alternating red and blue stripes.

Ears flying and mouth open in a grin, a shaggy puppy charges through a backyard garden with one paw on a striped ball. Fine lines fill the scene: a leafy tree overhead, a wooden fence, a house with a paned window, big daisies, a pot of blooming flowers and a stepping stone path. Older kids and adults who enjoy a full picture will find plenty to work on. Layer colored pencils on the fur, starting with pale honey and building up to warm amber for depth.

Every inch of this page is packed with pattern. At the center, a shaggy, smiling puppy rests its paws on a ball decorated with hearts and paw prints, surrounded by a stitched toy dog with a bow tie, a flower-covered bone, a knotted rope toy and a tasseled cushion. Mandala blooms and a patterned pot of flowers fill the remaining space edge to edge. Experienced adult colorists will enjoy the challenge. Fine-tip markers in a limited palette of teal, coral and mustard keep the busy details readable.
